How To: Using Equivalence Constraint (Equal Constraint)

The Equivalence Constraint (Equal Constraint) allows you to enforce identical dimensions across multiple sketch elements such as lines, arcs, or circles. This ensures design consistency and enables parametric control using a single reference value. 

 

1. Creating an Equal Constraint 

To apply an equivalence constraint, In Sketcher Workbench

  1. Select multiple sketch elements (lines, arcs, or circles). 

  1. The first selected element defines the reference length/value. 

  1. Apply the Equal (Equivalence) constraint

  1. All selected elements will adopt the same dimension. 

Note: The dimension of the first selected element drives all others. 

 

 

 

 

 

2. Adding Dimensions to an Existing Equivalence Group 

You can extend an existing equivalence group with additional dimensions: 

  1. Select a dimension that already belongs to an equivalence group. 

  1. Hold down the Ctrl key

  1. Select one or more dimensions of the same type. 

  1. Right-click to open the contextual menu. 

  1. Click “Add Equivalent Dimensions.” 

The selected dimensions will be added to the group and automatically updated to match the group value. 

 

 

 

 

⚠️ Important Notes When Adding Equivalent Dimensions 

  • Only dimensions of the same type can be grouped. 

  • If selected dimensions include formulas a warning dialog appears. You can choose to ignore those constraints or cancel the operation
