CATIA V5

CATIA V5 from Dassault Systèmes is the main 3D CAD Tool at CERN.

It offers advanced and highly instinctive tools for easily creating, verifying and modifying any type or shape, from freeform surfaces to mechanical shapes. This is considered as CAx software and referred to as a 3D Product Lifecycle Management package as it supports multiple product development stages from conception, design and engineering to manufacturing.

CATIA V5 is, together with its database managed by SmarTeam, CERN’s main program for mechanical CAD. After an initial pilot project, CATIA was put in production at CERN in 2005 and, by the end of 2008, fully replaced the old tool, Euclid.

Available to declared CATIA users at CERN via CMF.
Access is granted by the CAD Support team. More detail here.

How to install CATIA and the Connector?

The CATIA connector installation is performed via the CERN CMF installation manager, through the icon as shown in the image below.

Once your computer is added in the NSC (to complete this process, the admin or the main user of the computer must accept a request sent via email), then, you will be able to install the CATIA connector via CMF.

How to grant access?

If you require access to CATIA to edit some CAD documents, you need to contact the PLM platform support via email: plm-support@cern.ch.

To access the PLM, you can either use the PLM desktop application or you can use any web browser with this url: https://plm.cern.ch/prod/Client/

The visualization only access using the PLM platform is granted automatically, you must log in with your CERN NICE account from any web browser using this url: https://plm.cern.ch/prod/Client/ (no client installation required).
